Oisin's Rugby Odyssey PDF Print E-mail

Bective Lad departs on Rugby Odyssey

This week, Bective U21 Lock - Oisin Lennon will embark on a remarkable tour of high class rugby in the Southern hemisphere, the envy of the team-mates he leaves behind. "We all wish him the best of luck, he is a top lad and we know he will excel there and come back the better for it" said U21 Head Coach Jim Oliver.

Oisin has been accepted into the International Rugby Academy in New Zealand (IRANZ) - based in Palmerston North. His journey begins on 28th January when he will attend the High Performance Course in the Academy. The course takes in 30 players in total - with 2 players per position and involves various innovative coaching methods plus the participation of rugby legends Murray Mexted, David Campese, Pat Lam and Brian Ashton. It will be a gruelling programme starting at 6 every morning to between 5/8 in the evening.

The Clash in Donnybrook 30.01.2010 PDF Print E-mail

Old Wesley (4th) V Bective Rangers (3rd), Donnybrook - this is old school.

It probably would not pass munster as a script but you could not ask for a better game this weekend. Neighbours and now rivals. All square on 27 points. Possible promotion and playoff place at stake. The voiceover would not do it justice.

Newly promoted Wesley have refused to accept safety this season and gone hell for leather to claim a promotion spot two seasons running. Six wins and three try bonuses in the bag. Bective come into this on the back of putting a serious dent in Thomond's ambitions last weekend. Their six wins and a draw and their marginally better points difference sees them above Wesley in the placings.

Call yourself a rugby fan? You should be in Donnybrook for this showdown.

Jonathan Sexton & Santa visit Bective PDF Print E-mail

Last Sunday, 20th December, at the Children’s Christmas Party in Bective Rangers the star of the show was not only Santa and his gifts. All the young partygoers were also interested in seeing and meeting a graduate of this annual event.

Ireland and Leinster out-half, and mini-rugby player in Bective until he was 12 years old, Jonathan Sexton, was the guest of honour and a great hit with everyone (mini and major) present.

The party was organised and presented by the Bective Vice-President, Joe Nolan, who was manager of the mini-rugby section while Jonathan was playing. Jonathan was then presented with the jersey he wore when Captain of the Bective Under 8’s, by one of the current managers of mini-rugby in the Club Maeliosa Power.
