Bective host Annual Ladies Lunch... In keeping with tradition in Bective Rangers FC, the last League match before Christmas is the date for the Annual Ladies' Lunch in the Club and a most enjoyable and successful afternoon was had by everyone last Sunday, 27th November when Bective played host to Thomond in the Ulster Bank League. Each of the more than 50 Ladies was welcomed in the Club to a small reception with a glass of bubbly, which was presided over by Angela Behan, and the opportunity to view, and purchase if they wished, some lovely handcrafted Christmas and special occasion charity cards that were made by Ruth Cahill of www.duckblue.ie. There was also a collection of some pashminas and handmade jewellery that was very popular. A great way to start any afternoon! The generosity of a main sponsor, Club Member Derek Joyce of Amlac Limited, was essential to the success of the day and contributed a glamorous handbag from the Newbridge Collection as the First Prize in the raffle and also ensured that the “Goodie Bag” for the Ladies contained a beautiful Christmas decoration by Newbridge Silverware. Image Magazine also donated a copy of their November magazine for each bag and there were other small items which were received from supporting Club Members including Paul Hatton of GlaxoSmithKline. With more than 50% of the attendance made up of wives, mothers, grandmothers, girlfriends, and sisters of Bective members, it was truly an afternoon of catch-up with friends from past years and meet-up with friends for the future. At each of the Ladies’ tables there was wine sponsored by Mary Dunne and Bailey’s courtesy of Club President Michael McGrail – both of which really added to the day. A very successful raffle was held with other prizes to follow the popular handbag. Among the prizes were dinner for two in the Purple Sage Restaurant, Stillorgan Park Hotel, donated by Daragh O’Neill; a €50 book token, given by Junior Vice-President Johnny Behan; two bottles of Champagne from Club Member Aoife Culleton; six bottles of wine were provided by Club Member Ger Garland of Irish Distillers Pernod-Ricard; a bottle of whiskey (which was won by the visiting President of Thomond, Joe O’Shaughnessy) had been presented by Ann Smyth. Other prizes were perfumes, chocolates, toiletries and jewellery. The support of all the sponsors was most appreciated and very valuable in making the day such a success. The organiser of the Annual Ladies’ Lunch in Bective is the Club PRO, Barbara Culleton - assisted by Aoife - and many thanks are due to her for continuing to arrange such a pleasant day. Of course watching the match was not compulsory for the guests and some did take refuge and remained in the Pavilion around the lunch tables enjoying mince pies, coffee and chat. Everyone else who went outdoors for the match was well rewarded with a comprehensive 39–6 victory for the home team. http://www.leinsterrugby.ie/domestic/newsroom/9005.php |
