Weekend 9th & 10th February 2008 AIB League Ballynahinch 13, Bective 22 J3 League Bective35, Enniscorthy 6 J4 Friendly Bective 0, Wanderers 20
J3 League Match Report A decent performance from the A’s this week, which saw us build on the good performances and training over the past few weeks. We started out strongly with a try within the first 5 minutes under the posts by Chris Sewell, captain on the day. A decent rolling maul, saw us convert the forward pressure. The conversion sneaked over from the boot of Giles Barrett. Trading penalties with Enniscorthy, Bective dominated the first half, but the large Enniscorthy pack did everything they could to stop Bective’s rolling mauls and pink balls. The half finished with a score of 13 – 3 in Bective’s favour. The second half saw a different game from Enniscorthy, this time they were under strict instructions to keep it in the forwards and roll it at all times. They gained ground from this, but Bective was well able to handle this method of play, and some amazing tacking and commitment from the backs and forwards prevented any tries being scored. Bective choose to move the ball out wide, and scored three tries through Niall McDowell, Morgan Foley, and Tom Connolly. Another penalty saw the score pushed out to 35 – 6, which gave Bective an additional bonus point for this win. Overall it was a gritty determined performance, but lots of work to do for the next game against Carlow this weekend. Players got stuck in and tackled where it counted, and it is from here that we build for the cup. Final Score: Bective Rangers 35 – Enniscorthy 6 J4 Friendly Match Report A decent turnout for this friendly played under lights on the back pitch in Donnybrook. This annual friendly, results in squads of players being chosen, and the rolling on and off of subs allows everyone to get a game. Wanderers had a good team out for this, with a number of their J2 team down for a run out. The game started very tightly, with the game swinging back and forth between the teams. Bective held their own, and although there were long periods of pressure, they were not able to convert this pressure. Wanderers scored a try through their forwards, and from there on they turned the screw on this game. They scored again shortly afterwards, and even a few changes from the subs bench did not allow Bective to reel Wanderers in. The game finished 4 tries to nil, but everyone enjoyed the evening, and more than a few drinks were had in the bar afterwards. |
