Bective - A club for all ages!

Whether you are 7 years old or 37 years young - it is always possible to play rugby with Bective Rangers FC!

Having had a very successful Mini and Youth Section for the last number of years Bective is now involved with another age group. With the launch of the Leinster Vets League last week it is obvious that Vets rugby is alive and well in Leinster.

As one of the organisers of the league Joe Osborne, a member of Bective, explained, "The idea is to get older players (Over 35) to play in a fun, but competitive league. Scrums are non-contested but all other aspects of the game involve full contact.

"Most players of our age are fathers and/or uncles, and we thought it would be a good idea to raise money for a charity such as Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin.

"Players are asked to make a contribution to the charity after each match they play, if they so wish. They are under no obligation to pay to play and should only contribute if they can afford to do so.

"We approached clubs with Vets teams already this season and next season, we hope to expand the league throughout Leinster."

The first fixtures were played earlier this month and the clubs participating in the league are Co. Carlow FC, Coolmine RFC, Old Belvedere RFC, St. Mary's RFC, Bective Rangers F.C. Boyne RFC, Clontarf FC and Suttonians RFC.

To start the (oval) ball rolling and to announce Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin as the League’s Charity, a presentation of buckets was held in the Bective Rangers’ Pavilion.
