Dear All, Our neighbours, Old Wesley, were unable to do us any favours last weekend when losing their previously deferred Ulster Bank League match against Ballymena. Consequently, our 1st XV dropped to 5th place in the League making our away fixture against Clonakilty next Saturday an even more crucial one where a win is a necessity. Although we are still in the hunt for automatic promotion – the game between Malone and Belfast Harlequins is also extremely critical – we could find ourselves involved in a play-off against Bruff to decide the relegation/promotion issues between Division 1 B and Division 2. The undernoted table shows the current positions in Division 2 and you will see that there are other possible permutations which could exclude Bective. Therefore, your physical presence in Clonakilty would be of enormous help to the team as it strives to achieve success for the Club. Also on next Saturday the J 4 team competes, away, against NIUM Barnhall in the Winter’s Cup – the kick-off is at 3.00 p.m. The side would welcome your support on the day – that is if you cannot make the trip to Clonakilty. The J 5 team incurred a League defeat on last Saturday when coming second to Terenure College by 5 – 29. However, expectations are high that success can be achieved on Sunday 24 April when meeting De La Salle Palmerston in the O’Connor Cup – details of the venue and starting time will be advised to you next week. The Vets’ (over 35’s) side commences its Fox Cup campaign this evening in Donnybrook at 7.30 p.m. where the opponents are Boyne R.F.C. We are the holders which imposes an extra burden on the stalwart shoulders of the Players and they would be grateful for your support as in the past. There is a also curtain raiser in Donnybrook to to-night’s match when, at 6.00 p.m., we entertain the Liceo Football Club from Argentina who are currently undertaking a tour of Ireland and England. As they were exceptional hosts to our touring party to Argentina, during our 125th anniversary, it would be an ideal occasion for us to reciprocate the hospitality and support, particularly from those Members who visited Argentina, would be most welcome.
