Dear All, The final series of matches in the Ulster Bank AIL took place on last Saturday when the Senior team was successful by 19 - 15 in a hard fought, and very closely - too closely - contested away game against Clonakilty. Based on various results throughout the season it might be a good idea for the Club to invest in the services of a Waverley Ambulance for all games as it could have a good supply of customers on a regular basis!! Results in other key games did not go in our favour as a consequence of which we finished in 5th place in the Division. This means that we face an away match against Bruff, Limerick, on Saturday 30 April, which will decide the final outcome of the relegation/promotion places in Divisions 1 (B) and 2.
Thanks are due to the Team and Management for all of their efforts during the campaign and, no doubt, these will be raised even higher next week. Thanks are due to all of the Supporters who travelled to Clonakilty with great expectations which were unfilled but these can be regenerated on Saturday week, against Bruff, when even greater support would be of huge benefit to the team. Supporters Bus to Bruff - April 30th Assuming there are sufficient numbers it is planned to hire a bus to take supporters on the round trip to the match on Saturday April 30th for the Division 1B/2 Playoff. Times are to be confirmed but the provisional plan is to leave Donnybrook at 10.30/11am on Saturday and stop on the way for soup and sandwiches and returning after the match. The cost of the bus would be approx. €12 return, depending on the numbers. Obviously it would assist with arrangements if you could confirm your place on the bus within next few days. Please contact any of the following; Aoife Culleton, Elva Murphy or Derek Thornton The J 4 team exited the Winter's Cup last Saturday when incurring an away defeat against NUIM Barnhall where the score was 23 - 8 in favour of our opponents. The J 5 side will be hosting an O'Connor Cup game versus De La Salle Palmerston this weekend - please note that this takes place on Saturday (23rd) and not Sunday (24th) as was indicated to you last week. The venue is in Glenamuck with a kick-off at 3.00 p.m. Again your support would be very much appreciated. The Vets (over 35's) side had a good win in the Fox Cup when playing in Donnybrook on last Wednesday night against Boyne R.F.C., the score was 25 -15. A reprise (rather than a reprisal) takes place to-night at 7.30 on the back pitch at Lansdowne Road when the Vets meet Wanderers in the semi-final of the Fox Cup. This will involve the continuation of rivalry between the Power (Bective) and Mahon (Wanderers) families: it should be an exciting occasion and all support would be very welcome. The touring Club, Liceo Football Club, from Argentina played a match against a combined J 1's/J 2's team of Bective as a curtain raiser to last Wednesday's Fox Cup game. A victory by 17 - 6 was achieved by Bective in an entertaining game but which did not favour our visitors, purely in accidental circumstances, in the context of injuries: one Player suffered a fractured leg (tibia) and was hospitalised and underwent an operation which meant that he had to defer his departure to London for a few days before he could link up with the party prior to returning home: another Player incurred a broken hand. Thanks are due to Dr. Tim O'Flanagan for his medical ministrations on the night. In addition Jim O'Dwyer is thanked for his organisation of the match when taking over the reins at short notice and also to Aoife Culleton for moving mountains with both the I.R.F.U. and the Leinster Branch in achieving approval for the game and it being staged as a "double header" in Donnybrook on the night and to Bective's answer to Jamie Oliver - Alan Dolan, for his culinary attributes in feeding the teams (4) on the occasion. Thanks are also due to Steve McGettigan for his sponsorship of the match. The Annual Golf Outing will be held in Woodbrook Golf Club, by kind permission, on Friday 29 April. Entry form is on the front page of the website should you wish to partake in same and Johnny Behan is the man to contact with your details, bookings and queries
