U17 Cup Semi-Final & More

Weekly Newsletter (15-21 April)

Thank You Bernard

The Executive wish to announce that Bernard Jackman is stepping down from his role as Bective’s Director of Rugby with immediate effect.

Bernard’s recent career path has made it difficult for him to combine his rugby duties at Bective with his many media commitments including his recent appointment as High Performance Director to Horse Sport Ireland and he has therefore decided to step down at this time. Bernard has brought great success to the club since coming on board in 2019. During his tenure the club has been revitalised on and off the pitch.  Back to back Leinster League Division 1A titles 2022 & 2023, AIL Play - Off Final 2022, Semi-Final 2023, All Ireland Jnr Cup Finalists 2024, plus 4 in a row Leinster 2XV League (J2) titles. We wish Bernard the best of luck for the future and hope to see him in the club for a pint when the new season starts, hopefully, with a medal after a successful Olympics with the Irish Equestrian Team.

Bective New U20’s Coach

Bective are delighted to confirm the appointment of David McAllister as U20’s Head Coach for the coming season. David joins our U’20’s management team of We Wa Power, Emmett Sheridan , Mick Sweeney, Johnny Vaughan and Tim O‘Flanagan.

David is a former Leinster Senior professional player in the mid 2000’s with 7 caps but unfortunately, his early career was cut short by injury.

READ MORE ABOUT DAVID’S PLAYING CAREER

His more recent coaching career has seen him take up roles with Terenure College SCT, Blackrock College SCT, Leinster Youths, Leinster U19’s,Terenure U20’s and Buccaneers U20’s, as well as his current roles as Head Coach with Technological University Dublin and the SCT at the High School, Rathgar, this season bringing the school to their first major Senior Schools Cup Final in over 50 years.

David brings a wealth of experience to our U20’s Programme and together with his knowledge of the game and enthusiasm and ambition for this role, we have no doubt that our U20’s squad and management will reap the benefits over the course of the coming seasons.

Everyone at Bective welcomes David to Donnybrook as our U20’s Head Coach and we wish him and his team the best of luck for the 2024-25 Season.

General Update

On Sunday our Leinster league U17’s Champions are in action again as they take on Greystones in the Semi Final of the Cup in Donnybrook. Anyone who witnessed their recent  epic league final win will know what a fantastic bunch of lads they are. So we wish Capt. Cian Walsh, the players and coaches the best of luck on Sunday it what promises to be another titanic battle.

Always remember your support is key to the club’s success

The 2XV unfortunately came up short in their Moran Cup Semi Final last Fri evening at Railway Union.  Led by Capt. Ben Ryan, the players fought to the end and with a bit of luck could have snatched it before losing out to the home side.  Nonetheless, a great season for all the squad on winning an unbelievable 4 in a row Leinster League (J2) titles.  Well done to all the players, coaches and backroom team.

Final Score: Railway Union 33 – Bective 27.

So it was back to the same venue last Saturday afternoon where Capt. Stephen Fox’s 3XV made up for the disappointment of the night before, with a comprehensive win over Railway Union to qualify for the Leinster Branch O’Connor Cup Final.  Congratulations to all the players, coaches and backroom team on their achievement.

Final Score: Railway Union 10 – Bective 36.

Results:

This weekend our U6/U7/U8/U9's were all busy attending the Belvo Blitz.  We had 9 teams across the 4 age grades competing across Saturday and Sunday.  All teams competed really well and represented Bective brilliantly.  Well done to Head Coaches Justin White (U6/U7), Jamie Nolan (U8) and Tommy Sheehy (U9) and all their support coaches and players who were involved.

The U11's played away in the Nass Blitz which was their second blitz in 2 weekends.  There were 36 teams from across the country competing and as always the U11's competed really well and represented the club superbly.  Congratulations to Head Coach Paul Hatton and all his support coaches and players who were involved in the Blitz.

The U12's played at home against Blackrock and Greystones this weekend.  Having lost a number of players to a soccer tour to Lisbon, their one remaining team played both Blackrock's teams and won both matches playing some brilliant rugby.

Bective Men’s shed

For some time a Bective men’s shed has been discussed and now as we have a pavilion to be proud of we are going ahead with the idea. It is for those retired members who can give an hour or two on a Thursday to devote to maintenance and development of our premises and for a meet up for tea/coffee. We would be keen to develop the rear of the pavilion so that it can be used during the summer months for outside eating / drinking. Men’s shed takes place on Thursdays at 12.
