UNDER 14 CUP WINNERS!

Weekly Newsletter ( 5-11 May)

With all the senior teams done and dusted, it was left to our U14’s (Bective/Lansdowne) to pull down the curtain on this amazing season and lift more silverware for Bective by beating Donnybrook Babas (Old Belvedere/Old Wesley) 14 - 12 in their Leinster Youths Final last Sunday in Donnybrook. Congratulations to the players and all the coaches on this great achievement.

There was a fantastic turnout last Friday as the players celebrated the end of a famous season for Bective with their black tie dinner in the Pavilion. Hosted by Captain Tiarnan McCloskey, with all the trophies and pennants on show, a truly memorable evening was had by the large group of attendees.

Our back pitch here in Donnybrook is currently being renovated, with a new state of the art 4G surface being installed. Work is expected to be completed by the end of May on this important project. This new high performance synthetic turf surface being installed, along with the recent upgrade of our gym and of course the whole clubhouse refurbishment, puts Bective at the forefront of club rugby as we make our return to the AIL next season.

Results:

U14 AWAY BLACKROCK (Metro Final) - The U14's had another meeting with Blackrock but this time in the Metro Final.  In what have been close encounters throughout the season this one was very similar.  Bective/Lansdowne put on another great display of rugby but were pipped once again by Blackrock losing out 14-12 in a nail biting match.

U6/U7 AWAY DLSP (Kieran Burke Festival) - Bective Rangers brought 3 mixed U6/U7 teams to Kirwan Park for the annual Kieran Burke Festival.  Despite cool spring weather, the youngsters shone with sharp tagging, clever handling and plenty of tries.  Bective were awarded the festival shield which was presented to Head Coach Jonathan Lynch by Kieran Burke's parents.  Afterwards, the players refuelled with crisps, jellies and burgers, their smiles a testament to a fantastic day of fun rugby.

U12 HOME DLSP - Another successful outing for the mighty U12 squad. Some tough matches were played against a strong DLSP outfit but our U12 teams won the majority of their matches.

U14 HOME DONNYBROOK BABAS - The U14 team had their second of 2 cup finals  on Sunday in Donnybrook against the Donnybrook Babas for the Leinster Cup.  In another thrilling match the mighty U14 team came out on top securing the win with another super kicking display by Harry Lane winning 14 - 12.  Congrats to Dave Lane, Dave Shaw, Matt Shaw, David Popplewell and Mike Ross.  A fantastic end to the season for the U14's.

U17 AWAY BABAS (Wanderers & DLSP) - The U17 outfit played their 3rd match and once again it was an exhilarating game to watch.  We saw the return of Jools White and his dad Anthony from the UK who were both part of the 2022-2023 U13 league winning team. The match was a 24-24 draw with Jools White scoring 3 tries and Oliver Maybury scoring the last try and converting it to secure the draw. Congrats to Marcus Kennedy who manages to keep this group connected to the club season after season.
